Today was an arse-breaking day of 251 miles over more than 5 hours of flying.

Left Swansea 1135 and took the coastal route all around Wales. Passed Aberporth, flew past some stunning scenery and landed at Caernarfon at 1359. That’s an interesting place to land at with the approach for runway 26 over a caravan park.

Had lunch, refuelled (a long long walk from pumps, to office to find refuelling guy, back to refuel, then back to pay at office and back to ‘plane) and departed just after 5pm. Good to hear lots of Welsh-speaking people.

Chugged along against a headwind and both decided we needed a break, so dropped into Cark near Morecombe Bay. Cark is mainly there for the busy parachuting club but they had long gone by the time we got there at 1920.

Very nice person made us a perfect cuppa which was much appreciated. Departed at 1950 for the chug onwards to Carlisle.

We chose to follow the M6 North which looked fine on the map, but the reality is it would be unfortunate to have an engine failure! Fantastic scenery with very large lumps of granite everywhere.

Eventually made Carlise at 2103 though not the last to land! Total time flying: 5:52
